A Single Man in Possession of a Good Fortune

It is truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. Henry was dressed for work: kakis, button down and a tie, hair slicked back and a winning smile. He had the dream job, car and house the only thing he didn’t have is a wife.
Lucy has the perfect smile, laugh and twinkle in her eye. When she entered a room you could feel the room light up.
One day on Henrys way to work he bumped into a girl with a twinkle in her eye. He thought nothing of her really just another person on the street. There was something about her that he couldn’t keep out of his mind.
Every day for the past week on his way to work he would run into the girl with a twinkle in her eye. After the 5th time running into her he decided to find out who she was. Her name is Lucy turns out she walks this way to her job, she owns a bakery down the street. She had just catered Henry’s office party last week.
Lucy and Henry hit it off. They would meet each other at her bakery after he got off work and would spend endless hours talking and talking. They continued this tradition for 7 months. Henry knew that he was ready to spend every day for the rest of his life at this little bakery.

6 O’clock that’s when it happened. Henry had just gotten off work his hair was slicked back the way it always is there was a little bulge in his breast pocket in the shape of a box. He was ready to finally have it all, the dream wife to complete the dream life. He was half way to the bakery when he heard a shot and a scream. He ran in and saw Lucy lying on the floor in the middle of a pool of blood. The twinkle in her eyes had disappeared. That moment he knew that his dream life would never be complete. It was a fine cry – loud and long- but it had no bottom and it had no top, just circles and circles of sorrow.

  1. This took such a sad turn! But with that closing line, I guess it would be hard to go any other direction. You did a nice job linking these and I like the imagery of the ring in the man's pocket as he happily makes his way home.
